Celebrating one's 50th birthday is a great accomplishment for any person. You should be happy celebrating it because the years you have lived have made you a better and wiser person.
For my dad's 50th party we decided on a "Vintage is Better" theme. It was a great night and one he will never forget. Here are ideas for how to throw your own "Vintage is Better" 50th theme birthday party:
Incorporate things like vintage wine that was made the year that you were born to act as reminder of how far you have come. Also serve aged cheese on gourmet crackers.
Your guests can be treated to a showcase of your life captured in pictures of you since you were young. We had a "This is Your Life" style gallery in the formal living room and guests were encouraged to take a tour with the "docent" (his mother). She knew the history behind each picture and was able to share a lot of stories about my father's youth that not everyone knew.
You can also celebrate your birthday by reminiscing on good old days by listening to music that was played then and telling each other stories from the distant past when you were younger.
Because most of your guests will probably be your age mates or older, adorn attires that you wore when your young and take some great photos. The invitation should say vintage clothing required.
You may have young relatives and children at the party, so make sure to incorporate ideas that would appeal to them. They probably won't get the vintage theme of the party, so have a separate area where they can play games or watch tv if they get bored.
All in all this was a very classy party. We had 30+ guests at the house and everyone loved it.
