Tomboy Birthday Party Theme: So, your child’s birthday is coming up, and you desperately need a theme for a tomboy 6 year old girl – well, you are in luck because I just threw the party of the year! My 6 year old daughter loves to play with the boys, riding bikes in the mud, working in the garden, catching bugs and snakes, and doing all things outdoors.
She absolutely refuses to play with Barbie, and does not want a “Pretty in Pink” party. So, what was I to do? My solution: not fight it and have an outside picnic party!
We first made the invitations out of Popsicle sticks, in the shape of a picnic table complete with plastic ants glued on the table. The food was “make your own sandwiches” with the bread cut out in the shape of a picnic table, with various lunch meats and cheeses available for the kids. They loved making their own sandwiches, and it was easy to get ready!
The desserts were “dirt pudding”, with chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo cookies, and gummy worms layered in a cup. Chips, gummy worms, gummy flies, and punch finished out the food selection.
Of course, the games had to follow our theme! We played “Pin the fly on the potato salad” – which was a modified “Pin the tail on the donkey” game with a picture of potato salad and flies instead of tails.
Next, we had a treasure hunt for the “snake in the grass” – which was a jump rope hidden in the grass at the park. The winner got to go fishing first, after they put a worm – a gummy worm of course – on the hook. Each child then got to go fishing for a final take home treat. The take home treats ranged from plastic snacks, flies and worms, to small dolls for some of the other girls.
