Teen Birthday Party Game : Mafia Attack

What You'll Need
• A Deck of Playing Cards
• 8 to 10 Players

This is a birthday party idea for teens. I was a camp counselor for several years and the kids loved this game. It is fairly popular, so you may have heard of it. We called it mafia.

To play the game, first you should should have everyone sit in a circle. It is best if there are at least 8 teens or so, the more the better.

The person who knows all the rules will be the Director: they won't be playing, they'll be giving the instructions.

How to Play Mafia : Teen Party Game

Everyone in the circle closes their eyes. You then distribute playing cards to all the participants. The playing cards are as follows: 1 Ace, ~3 kings (adjust depending on players), and the rest numbers. The ace is the Detective. The kings are the mafia. The rest are the townspeople.

Everyone looks at their cards but doesn't show anyone. The Director tells everyone to close their eyes. They do.

The Director says "Mafia open your eyes". The people that had the kings open their eyes. The director says "Mafia, choose who to kill". The mafia silently point to and agree upon one person to 'kill'.

The director says "mafia close your eyes" and then "detective open your eyes. who do you think is the mafia?". The detective silently points to someone and the director gives a thumbs up or down depending on if the person s/he pointed to was mafia.

The detective closes their eyes, and then the director says "everyone open your eyes". The director informs the person the mafia chose they are dead. They are done playing. The townspeople then argue about who they think is mafia.

Eventually they agree on someone with a unanimous vote (if it goes on too long, the director can agree on non-unanimous verdicts). The general idea is that the mafia are trying to kill all the townspeople and the townspeople are trying to catch the mafia. Whoever is the last alive, wins! Give prizes to the winner. Have fun!
