Sweet 16 Birthday Dance Party

If you are looking for the perfect theme for your daughter's Sweet Sixteen birthday party, you might want to consider a Sweet 16 Dance Party. Most teenage girls love music and love to dance, so it's a perfect choice. You will have to decide if it will be an all-girls party, or if the guys will be invited too.

But either way, it's sure to be a big hit and create a great memory for your daughter on this special birthday.

Spend a little time deciding what the invitations will look like. This is the first glimpse your guests will have of all the fun you have planned for them, so you want to grab their attention from the start. There are so many affordable invitation sites online so you can easily find one to match the dance theme.

Another idea is to write the invitation on old CD’s and mail those. Be creative and get your daughter involved in the process. Make sure you tell the guests in the invitation to dress up for the big "dance". If everyone's wearing jeans and t-shirts it will drag it down.

Planning a menu for teens is pretty simple. Since there will be a lot of dancing, you don't want to serve anything heavy. Finger foods and plenty of drink options will do the job at this party.

Set up several self-serve drink areas and a buffet for the snacks. Of course you will want to serve birthday cake, decorated to match your theme. It's clever to have your cake match your invitations if possible.

Preparing the Dance Scene

If the party will be at your home, you will need to clear out a big area and turn it into a dance floor. A garage, an outside deck, or even a space out in the yard can be roped off for this purpose.

Decide if you want to hire a DJ or simply get your daughter to download all the songs on her iPod. It can play all night without anyone having to worry about it.

It’s a good idea to have several chairs around the dance floor too. Even teenagers get tired at some point. For decorations you will want to try to create the perfect dance environment. White twinkle lights, a sparkly disco ball, or even a cool strobe light make excellent choices.

Use your daughter’s favorite colors and create or purchase banners, streamers or tissue paper pompoms.

16th Birthday Dance Competition

During the night you can have a dance competition. Chaperones can be the judges and hand out little prizes for the winners. Toy trophies would make fun prizes.

When the magical night comes to an end and you have to close the dance floor, send your guests home with special goody bags. Fill bright colored or glittery bags with candy, disco ball key chains, a CD, fake tattoos, glow jewelry, or even a commemorative t-shirt to remind them of the fun night they had dancing the night away.
