A wonderful, fun idea for a themed birthday party is a "Pirate Party" and to make it the best ever, start off with a unique invitation they won't forget! This pirate birthday party invitation idea is "Message in a Bottle".
Not many people know, but the post office will deliver anything to an address as long as it has an address and sufficient postage, this includes a bottle!
To make the invitations the first thing to do is find small plastic bottles at a craft store. Make sure to get plastic ones and not glass. You could also save up old plastic containers from the kitchen like mayonnaise containers, coke bottles, or ketchup bottles.
Once you have enough bottles get some parchment paper. It's not expensive for a ream and you can use the extra for decorating during the party. If you don't want to get parchment paper, you can also take regular typing paper and dip it in tea to give it a weathered look. If you do this, just make sure to let it dry before you start writing the invitation.
A fun invitation idea is to make a pirate map (directions to your house) on your old-looking paper. You could write "X marks the spot for ______'s party!" or "Yo, Ho, Ho, Come Find the Treasure at ________'s Pirate Birthday Party." On the back of the map you can have your typical invitation information.
Then put the invitation in the bottle and put the cap on the bottle. Get some blank address labels, write out their address and affix it to the outside of the bottle along with your return address.
If you want to get fancy, you can also put confetti or a few pieces of candy in with the bottle. Pirate coins typically are too big to fit (I tried), but you may be able to find some other small pirate decorations to fit into the bottle neck.
This is a really cute pirate invitation idea that ends up costing less than regular invitations! Everybody commented on how cute it was for my son's 7th birthday party (with a pirate theme of course).
