Monster Birthday Party Ideas, shared by Heather Orland from California: A monster birthday theme is suitable for any age, however my son was 1 when I used this idea. The idea I had for the birthday party came to me when planning the much anticipated 1st birthday of my only child.
My son's nickname is "Monster". It is a nickname his father had as a child and it got passed to him.
So when planning his first birthday party, I first struggled with a theme because he was one, and he didn't have a favorite cartoon or action hero. I finally decided to theme his party with Happy Monsters.
We did streamers hanging all over the ceiling in orange, blue and green. We had a monster birthday cake that was made with blue and green cupcakes arranged in the shape of a Monster face that smiled.
We found a lot of decorations that included monsters online, such as inflatable balls, temporary tattoos, bendable monsters, and plush monsters. We created goody bags with most of these; however, we hung the inflatable balls from the side of the EZ up we had used. At Toys'R'Us we found a monster that sang a happy birthday song, so we placed this next to his cake and people pushed the button when they walked by!
I also found on Oriental Trading Co a set of Monster plates and cups. The important part was making sure none of the Monsters looked scary.
Since my son was turning 1 there wasn't much need for a lot of games. There were a few older kids so we had a few for them. We had a pin the tail on the monster game for the older children. We also had a traditional pinata but with a monster shape!
Because my son had been a monster for the previous Halloween, we used that picture to make the invitations that also included the phrase "Monster Bash".
I love using invitations with your child's picture, because people will keep them on their refrigerator, which means they won't forget.
All of the kids, and adults had a lot of fun. And the best part was that the party theme was personal to my son. He may not remember the party, but everyone who attended will, and thank goodness for pictures!
