Magic Birthday Party for Kids

My suggestion for a theme birthday party is a "magic" party. I had one growing up, and it was my most memorable party. I'll describe the party to you, as all of the ideas we executed for the theme back then can be applied today.

The cake had a playing card design, and my name on it with "trick candles". When the party began, all the attendants (my 2nd grade friends), were given a "random" playing card and coin. All the children were also given mock tickets, to attend "the Greatest Magic Show On Earth".

The star magician in question was actually my father, though he could have fooled my friends he was a Vegas act. We had all types of "magic show" decorations. Long red curtains concealing the illusions, hats and wands for all the children, and even an "assistant" (my 12-year old sister).

There was also a David Copperfield special, playing on a looped VHS tape for everyone to sit and enjoy during downtime. The "star magician"
(my father) entertained us throughout the day with some homemade and store bought magic tricks.

All the party-goers participated in at least one trick, and everyone's "special" coin and playing card were used in the illusions at one point or
another.

Being the birthday boy, my card was part of the "grand illusion" and also the card pictured on the cake. It was an Ace of Diamonds, because I was both an "ace" and a "diamond". All of the party-goers received a gift bag with a few cheap tricks and gags. We also gave out candy, and everyone got to keep their coin and card.

Many of my childhood friends still have their coins, and have told me that my Magic-themed party was one of their favorite birthday parties growing up. I will never forget it!
