Kids Bingo Birthday Party

When I was about 10 years old, I had the best birthday party ever. My mom made it a "Kids Bingo Birthday Party Theme". I was very mortified at the time about this idea, because all I knew about Bingo was that old people played it in smoky, dingy Bingo halls!

My mother insisted that it would be fun, so I reluctantly agreed. She purchased a cheap bingo set from a discount store, complete with number tumbler, cards, and markers. She also purchased some inexpensive trinkets to give away as prizes, things like candy necklaces, bouncy balls, costume jewelry, and other novelties. If my memory serves me correctly she picked those up at a dollar store.

Before the party, my mom and I spent several hours together wrapping all of the Bingo prizes in tissue paper so they would be a surprise to the recipient. The day of my party, my friends were also a bit skeptical about this Bingo concept.

To all of our surprise, though, it turned out to be a hit! All the kids loved the competitive aspect of the game, and they were so excited to win the little prizes my mom had picked out. Every party-goer went away with a slew of fun toys and trinkets, and of course we had fun playing with the prizes after the game was over.

Since all the prizes were wrapped, no one knew what they had won until they opened it. I swear my friends made off with more toys and candy than I did at my own birthday party!

It may have been an unconventional idea, but my mother was spot-on with the Bingo Themed Birthday. Many years later I still have old friends mention to me how much fun they had at my birthday party that year, and how memorable it was for them.
