A Hollywood birthday party for girls is always a memorable theme idea. Ross from Abington, PA shares tips on what made his daughter's Hollywood theme birthday so special.
This party is for preteen girls from 10-12 and teenage girls from 13-14. It's all about the red carpet.
Buy a big red carpet and lay it out from the driveway to the front door. Also, consider buying some life size cardboard celebrity stand-ups and have by the door, framing the entrance.
Two will give a great impact, one on either side of the door. Choose your daughter's favorite celebs!
We had Hannah Montana on one side and Miley Cyrus on the other. Kind of fitting!
If you want to get crazy with it get several of the stand-ups and line the driveway with them. 2 to 6 on each side of the driveway will be more than enough.
The fun starts immediately! On the invitations, tell the kids/teens to show up as their favorite celebrity. Or just ask them to dress fancily in dresses and have some fake costume makeup and be wearing costume jewlery.
This is a mock Hollywood movie premier, after all. Dressing the part is half the fun. Also mention to their parents that they should park right at the edge of the driveway instead of coming into it as if the kids are getting off at a hollywood premier.
The parents of the birthday girl should be waiting at the driveway taking pictures with flash, as if they are paparazzi. It sets the mood for the whole rest of the birthday party. This was one of my daughter's favorite parts... the beginning!
Decorate the house with stars cut out of aluminum foil that is glued onto cardboard. Have lots of balloons and streamers, with camera decorations around the room as well.
Once everyone has arrived, bring in the celebrity cardboard standups. They'll do double duty as decorations as well.
Show a new, hip movie on a big screen TV. We ordered pizza and had chips and soda on hand during the movie. For desert, we had a cake in the shape of a Hollywood star. It said, "Celebrity Angie's 13th Birthday".
For games, you can buy the game Scene-It and test the kids' knowledge of Hollywood movies and stars.
My wife picked out the party favors. We had goodie bags that were full of fake jewelry and glittery costume makeup and boas. We also bought mini notebooks that were shiny and had stars on them for each of the guests so they could sign "autographs" or write notes to their friends.
You could also have a scavenger hunt with DVDs or CDs. You could tape these prizes on the back of the celebrity cutouts and the way the kids will find them, is if they can figure out the hint you give. For example, we had the Hannah Montana cutout, and we taped a Hannah Montana CD to the back of her cutout. We gave the girls a hint saying "she lives two lives".
These activities were enough to keep things going for our party. The girls spent the rest of the time in Angie's bedroom giggling about boys and trying on each other's wigs and stuff. I exited the scene and tried not to listen in!
