Happy Halloween Birthday Party Ideas

Halloween themed birthday parties are great for those having a birthday in October. Especially for kids that are in that pre-teen age range of seven to twelve.

Halloween Birthday Party Ideas : Supplies and Decorations

I'm an October baby and I did this every year when I was a child with varying games and outings and it never got old.

It is also quite fun to plan for and has endless possibilities. For starters, all guests should come in costume. The party room should be decorated with orange and black crepe paper and balloons.

A strobe light, smoke/fog machine or dry ice could be added for a more exciting and spooky atmosphere. Spooky sounds and traditional Halloween music like the Monster Mash playing in the background is also an option.

Any additional Halloween decorations help make it even more festive.

Halloween Birthday Party Ideas for Food :

Halloween birthday party ideas aren't just decorations. I always make party snacks and desserts that are themed as well.

The birthday cake should fit the theme using Halloween colors and/or characters such as a black cat, pumpkin, witch, spider, mummy etc.

A scary theme could also be drawn on a traditional rectangular or circular cake like a graveyard with ghosts or bats flying around. A "gross" dessert also adds to the fun.

Guests would enjoy dirt cups which are simple to make. Dirt cups include putting chocolate pudding in a cup, followed with a layer of crushed up oreo cookies and topped off with a gummy worm.

Candy apples are also a nice treat. A bowl of that is blood red and has small props (plastic eyes or spiders) floating in it would be a fun feature too.

Depending on the size of the props, they can also be placed in an ice cube tray with water and frozen ahead of time. These ice cubes can be put in the bowl of punch or offered for beverages separately in an ice bucket.

Halloween Birthday Party Ideas for Games :

Games would include bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins, busting a pinata shaped like a bat, cat, pumpkin etc. and having a mummy wrapping contest.

Mummy wrapping is where kids partner up and one child stands still as the mummy, while the other uses a roll of toilet paper to cover their partner as much as possible and as fast as possible.

Another fun idea is to tell a scary story involving body parts. The idea is to pass around a covered container that the kids can't see inside of and have them reach into it and feel the "body parts" as they are referenced. For example, you could tell a story of how a cannibal hunts people down for food and uses eyes in his soup and when saying eyes you would pass around peeled grapes to represent the eyes.

Some more ideas include the heart being uncooked liver, the hand being a latex glove filled with gelatin and hair being damp yarn. The party thrower can of course create any story they want and use any other materials they can think of to represent body parts they wish to use in their story.

More Halloween Birthday Party Ideas :

If the party is to be a sleepover, the evening could easily be filled with scary movies. Depending on the size of the party or the number of guests, an outing may be planned as part of the events.

The kids could be carpooled to a nearby haunted house or trail. Either the host can pay for a predetermined number of guests to attend or they can ask that each guest pay their own way.

Haunted attractions will often give discounts for large parties and may require a reservation so it would be ideal to call the attraction and determine this ahead of time.
