Games for 50th Birthday Party : Name that Tune
This is a really fun game idea for a fiftieth celebration. It's called blast from the past. What you do is get music from the era when the guest of honor was in their college years and early twenties. (At the time of this writing that would be from the 1970's.)
Then you set up a name that tune contest where everyone has to try to remember the name of the song or the band that did it. Here's a list of a few bands and music styles that were popular during that time:
Disco: Gloria Gaynor, The Bee-Gees, Van McCoy
Hard Rock: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith
Light Rock: Bob Dylan, Blondie, Moody Blues, Elton John
Punk: The Ramones, The Sex Pistols
So what you do is make a compilation of music from that era (or buy one ready made) and have a name that tune contest ala college years style.
It's sure to make the fifty year old in your life feel a little less old!
A fun twist on this game is to label everyone by what songs and bands they know. So a disco afficianado would be dubbed "Party Girl (or guy)" for the night. Someone who knows all the rocker tunes would be, "Hair Band King (or queen), someone who knows all the Ramones tunes could be called "Joey" etc.
You can also theme the concept more by finding out what kind of music they liked, and sticking with that genre exclusively. So if they loved the Moody Blues, go with all the light rock bands and leave out the others, etc.
An extra twist on this game is turn it into a whole theme for the celebration and have everyone show up in 70's clothes (maybe ones still hidden in their closet) and have 70's style decorations everywhere.
