First birthday invitation ideas need to be really special, because they only turn one once! Shared by Sharon Hauck from North Carolina. I looked around for special invitation ideas before coming up with this homemade Elmo card.
We had decided on an Elmo party for my daughter Krista's first birthday. I wanted to make special homemade elmo invitations for it.
I made my invitation background using microsoft word. I added a red background and then a white box for where the invitation text was going to be. And then to make things colorful I added a strip of rainbow color between the words.
For the elmo head I bought oval shaped red die-cuts from the craft store and glued them onto each invitation. I used regular white typing paper for the whites of the eyes and black construction paper for the blacks of the eyes.
I used two different sized circle punches for the black and white circles for the eyes. This was a lot easier than cutting them out by hand (which is the way I've done it in the past).
I hand cut the elmo noses out of orange construction paper. For the mouth I used more black construction paper and cut it out with an exacto knife.
The mouth was the hardest part of the project! For me, because I'm crafty, it was worth the extra effort to make my own invitations instead of buying pre-made ones.
We had a small party planned so I only had to make twelve invitations. A lot of people told me they've saved the invitations in a photo album instead of throwing them away like they normally would.
It was a nice little way to celebrate my little girl turning one.
