A fall birthday party theme can be a really unique birthday idea. Caroline from California shares her tips for throwing an Autumn Harvest Birthday Bash.
A Fall Birthday Party is a really fun and unique theme.
I throw a Harvest themed birthday party every year for my daughter who has an early November birthday. What makes this party special is we live in Southern California where there is basically one season, hot.
So the kids think it is so much fun to have an Autumn Harvest party. It's very country compared to what they're used to. The kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes as the party is usually only a couple of days after Halloween.
I order silk leaves from party supply stores that come in bags of about 500 for a few dollars, and I spread them up the front walk of the house into the back yard.
A week before the party my daughter and I go to a pumpkin patch and buy about 20 large pumpkins to place around the yard. We also select one very small one for each child to take home with them at the end of the party.
I found real bales of hay, not a small feat here in Southern California, and put a few in the back yard with place mats set on top of them for people to sit on.
With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away there are always a lot of wonderful Autumn decorations in the stores. I always have a few corn husk wreaths and mini hay bales.
For food I order pizza and Macaroni and Cheese for the children and make a salad and finger sandwiches for the parents. If I am feeling motivated I make caramel apples.
The birthday cake this time around was a three dimensional pumpkin. It weighed about 20 pounds and was incredible to look at and to eat. I'm definitely doing a pumpkin birthday cake again next year.
I let my daughter choose the character she wanted and she chose Pocahontas. It was kind of in keeping with the Autumn theme. So there were a few Pocahontas decorations around as well, and of course, that's what she dressed up as.
I also hired a woman to play guitar and sing to the kids. She did folk songs and kids songs. The kids basically ignored her, but us adults thought it was great.
I had quite a few crafts set up for the kids. I purchased beads in the shape of leaves for the kids to string and Popsicle stick photo frame kits with die cut foam leaves and pumpkins.
The kids ended up taking these crafts home to do later and just ran around at the party. I basically throw this Autumn Harvest birthday party every year and my daughters friends talk about it all year long. It is always a huge hit.
