Looking for Dora birthday party ideas? Maria from Pennsylvania shares her tips for throwing great Dora the Explorer birthday parties.
For my daughters fourth birthday party, she wanted a Dora birthday cake.
Since Dora is very big with the kids and there are a ton of Dora themed items for sale to pull it together, I decided to go all out and have a Dora birthday party.
I went to the party store and bought Dora cups, plates, and napkins. While there, I decided to search around for matching decorations.
I found some streamers in purple and yellow that matched the party ware as well as matching balloons. In every corner of the first floor, I taped a big helium foil Dora balloon for decoration. I later let each child take a balloon home.
As the final festive touch, I sprinkled purple, yellow, and pink confetti all over the floors. This was a mess to clean up later but grown ups and kids alike loved the idea. We didn't buy the confetti, we made it from construction and tissue paper.
Once everyone arrived, we played a few games to get everyone in to the festive mood. The first game we played was pin the backpack on Dora. I had bought a big piece of poster board and drew Dora on it. This was a picture of Dora from the back, a full body picture.
I then colored the picture and took another poster board that I cut out back packs from. When it was time to play the game I hung Dora on the back of the front door.
I added a piece of tape rounded in to a circle to the back of the back packs so they would stick on the picture and one by one blind folded the kids, span them around a few times, and pointed them in the direction of the door. This game was a hit as most kids like pin the tail on the donkey anyway.
Another game we played was Destination Dora. This game played out like it does on Dora's show where she opens the map (which I read from) and followed the directions to get to the destination. Every time they reached a spot, they sang the back pack song and then I opened the map and told them where they had to go next.
We played it out in the parking lot next to my house. I had my oldest daughter and my sister go out and set up a kind of path to a treasure bowl where each kid got to take one additional prize from the bowl.
This was a simple project, they went around a chair, over a small plastic tub or water, through a crawling play tube, and behind my minivan where my oldest daughter waited to make sure everyone took one prize.
After the games, we sang Happy Birthday, ate and opened gifts. I let the kids run around and play. They liked the mix of scheduled games and then free time for just being kids!
