I threw a Disney Princess birthday party for my 4 year old daughter who loves anything Disney. It turned out great! I wanted to hire a Disney character impersonator for the birthday, so I knew I'd have to budget the rest of the party. Here's what I did:
I saved on decorations by price shopping online instead of going the party store route. I ordered Disney princess backdrops for photos, place settings and balloon bouquets. Besides the impersonator this was the biggest part of my budget.
Princess Party Food For food I put together inexpensive appetizers, finger foods, and juice boxes for the kids. (They're young, they didn't miss the fact that there wasn't a full meal). I had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which I cut into the shape of a castle (using a castle shaped cookie cutter) and different kinds of chips.
Princess Birthday Favors For favors, we bought cheap crowns, wands, and jewelry. We handed them out to the girls when they first got there so they were able to play "dress-up" and transform into princesses for the birthday party.
With the money we saved, we were able to splurge and hire "Belle" from the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast to come to the party.
The impersonator was great. She gave the girls a great storytime, taught them how to do the "Princess Wave", answered all the girl's questions, and of course, posed for photos with everyone.
Then we had cake and let the kids have at it in the playroom (they were too young for games). All of the parents of the guests are friends of ours so they stayed for the party too. The whole day was so relaxed and fun that the party went on for 4 hours!
