Birthday Party Princess Decoration
This is my homemade birthday party princess decoration idea. It was really easy to make, but it did take some time to cut everything out. My youngest wanted to have a princess birthday party and I wanted to do something different than the typical store bought stuff. I got my two older girls to help and they had a blast putting it together for Laurie.
Here's what we did. We got light pink tissue paper, dark pink tissue paper, purple tissue paper, 10 sheets of a pink and white floral scrapbook paper, and brown, blue, red and tan construction paper.
I had all the supplies lying around the house already except for the scrapbook paper, so it was really cheap to put this together.
The day before the party I moved the furniture out of the way in the room where we were going to do games. I got my two older girls together and we cut out the shapes. The tissue paper had funny looking lines from being folded, so I decided to wrinkle it all up before hanging it.
I used two full sheets of the light pink tissue paper to make the castle. Then we cut the tops and balls for it. We taped all the pieces onto the wall using regular tape.
Originally I was just going to have a crown on the wall next to it, but the girls were having so much, we turned it into a giant "princess Laurie". Laurie doesn't really have pink hair, but I didn't have any brown tissue paper!
The whole thing was a big hit. My two eldest had tons of fun helping me put it together and Laurie was sooo happy when she saw it on her birthday. (We kept the games room door shut the day before the party, so she didn't get to see it beforehand).
Everybody loved it and it really made the birthday party princess theme into a lot of fun. People don't always decorate their whole house for a party, just the main area where the food is, and it was a surprise for everyone to go in to the games room (normally our tv room) and see this giant castle and princess on the wall.
The only problem was that the tape didn't hold it all up for the entire party. Some spots started to come undone. But, there were little six year old girls going up and touching it which is probably why.
Next time I would put it higher where they can't reach or use some stronger tape. It held up pretty well, but parts of the castle were sagging and I had to do an emergency re-taping session in the middle of the party.
Does it matter though? The kids loved it! In my mind that's what it's there for, for the kids to have fun. It's only us parents who get all bent out of shape when a corner starts sagging, lol.
