Birthday Parade : Kids Party Game Idea

    Supplies Needed
  • Loud Musical Instruments
  • Funny Accessories (optional)
  • Signs

Well, if you look at the name of this website, you'll realize why we simply had to include a birthday parade game activity for kids! This idea is a real winner, and I bet you anything your child will be asking for a repeat of it next year.

It's easy to put together and really gets the kids excited. So here's how you do it:

In your party invitation let your guests know they're going to guest star in a super special birthday extravaganza parade. Request that the guests bring a toy musical instrument from home. Some ideas are toy drums, kazoos, flutes... anything that makes noise.

Also in the invitation, ask the kids to bring some colorful clothing accessories like bright scarves and hats, rainbow clothing, funny socks etc.

Before the Party

The parade will happen in your neighborhood. It's a good idea to let your neighbors know ahead of time because it will be a little noisy. Who knows, maybe they'll want to join in or stand by as parade watchers!

There are a few steps you can take to make sure it goes off as planned. A few of these steps are optional, but they'll add to the fun if you can do them.

Make up posters for the parade and hang them around the neighborhood the morning of the party. This adds to the "feeling of realness" for the children. You can do the posters on basic typing paper. Have it say something like, "Come one, Come all, It's Kyle's 8th Birthday Parade!"

Have a few extra musical instruments on hand for any children that don't bring one. You can get inexpensive kazoo's or noisemakers from dollar stores and party supply stores.

During the Birthday Parade

Let all the kids know that the parade is to commemmorate Kyle's (your kid's name of course) special day. Tell them that the louder they are, the more special Kyle's birthday will be, so it's important for them to make as much noise as possible. (Kids love to be told they need to be louder. It's the opposite of what they normally hear!)

Also let them know that the most important thing is that they stay with the parade leader and don't go into the road. (Depending on the age of the children this can be very important.)

Have an adult "lead the parade" and have another adult end it. This is for safety purposes. Basically you will lead the children along the sidewalks of your neighborhood. They can play the musical instruments, sing happy birthday as loud as they can, or come up with other funny songs and marching steps.

This birthday parade idea is soooo much fun, I promise! And it's also free to do, except for hanging a few posters and buying a few kazoos!
