All Grown Up Kids Birthday Party Theme: This theme is great for kids from 5 - 7 years old. It's all based on what the kids want to be when they grow up!

On the invitations specify that it is a costume party and that the guests should dress up as what they want to be when they're grown up. Also make a note to parents that it should be easy to identify what it is they want to be from their costume.

Make sure the invitations convey the message that this can be a realistic job, such as a doctor, or a make believe character, such as a super hero.

The birthday boy or girl may not be comfortable with inviting boys and girls, and that is alright, but it makes the party more fun if there are boy and girls attending.

It is interesting, as an adult, to see the differences in what boys think they want to be compared to the girls.

If a child shows up in a costume that is not easy to identify, such as a teacher, have tags on hand and write their occupation on the tag.

There will be, of course, many children wearing similar costumes, so play a game and see how many different occupations there are and how many are the same. If the child wants to do this, have them tell why they want to be a princess, astronaut or whatever they want to be.

Prior to the party, have certificates printed and decorated, then for each child fill in the certificate with their name, date, and their occupation. Then just let them play other party games, eat cake, go a little wild and have fun!

A follow up to this idea, that works especially well if most of the same kids are together when they are 10-12 years old, is to repeat the theme of the party, and see how their ideas of what they want to be have changed.

Repeat the same category game and give them certificates, and see how many of the children that were at the first birthday party remember what they wanted to be then as compared to now!
