The best type of birthday party is one with a current theme. In light of this year’s hit movie "Alice" I’d like to propose an Alice in Wonderland birthday party theme. I had one recently and it was awesome! This is how to throw your own:
The party would take place outdoors in a rose garden. All of the guests would be invited to come dressed in their best contemporary Alice in Wonderland finery. Guests would be greeted at the door by the Mad Hatter himself.
A long table lined with different tea pots and sweets would be set up in the center of the garden. Statues of the door mouse should be placed along the table. The tea pots are very affordable and easy to find at second hand and goodwill shops.
The sweets should herald back towards the Victorian era: petit fours, scones, miniature cupcakes, Madeleine’s. An English trifle with fresh berries and cream would be a stunning addition. If you feel that you need more than just sweets, classic tea party food would be appropriate and easy to prepare.
Some suggestions for the savory foods: miniature quiche, cucumber sandwiches, asparagus wrapped in bacon. Guests should be encouraged to randomly sing "A Very Merry Unbirthday" whenever the mood strikes.
Once you have the food down, entertainment is key! Since it’s an Alice in Wonderland themed party, croquet is an absolute must! Create wild rules and encourage pandemonium on the croquet field! A dramatic showing of selected scenes from Alice in Wonderland would be an excellent way to end this party.
If you don’t want to hire professional actors, send short scenes with the invitations and have your guests share their interpretation. If this doesn’t work, charades is a delightful game. Send each guest home with a small token--- a tea cup with either wrapped up treats or a candle in it would be a great way to cement your fabulous party in their minds.
I had so much fun with my Alice in Wonderland birthday party. Just be creative! It will be great.
