Adult Birthday Ideas : Warhol Art Party Theme. My buddy is a bit of an art freak and is a huge Andy Warhol fan. He wanted to do something special for his 27th birthday (also, a Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain fan who both died at 27). He wanted my help in doing something very cool.

We both have watched the movie the Doors directed by Oliver Stone and liked the Andy Warhol party scene cause of how cool it was, so we figured out how to make a version of that for the party.

Him and me live in a two-story house in Murfreesboro, Tennessee so we had plenty of room for a large party. We decided to go all out for this.

Adult Birthday Ideas : Creating a Warhol Party Theme

We put up a bunch of Andy Warhol's work on the walls and covered all of the windows in our house to block out the unnecessary light. We had our friends bring over 2 hookahs (for tobacco) and we set them up in our living room with our couches around the table.

We had a bar area in the other room and stocked it with Smirnoff vodka, Bud light beer and Jungle Juice.

Since I play guitar, I had a decent PA system. We set it up in the center of the house and played music by the Doors, the Velvet Underground, the Beach Boys, David Bowie and other psychedelic music to help set the mood.

For lighting, we dimmed lights in the smoking and bar rooms, but for a psychedelic kind of, we had our buddy, who works on lights for local bands in town help us out.

He took a couple of disco balls, cut them in half, put them on slow moving fans with a light shining on them to create an interesting sequence lighting. He also gave us a couple of different tinted light bulbs which we used for the bar area. While it may sound like a headache on paper, the experience made it interesting.

For food, we had a cake that had a picture of Andy Warhol's can of Campbell soup. We had it custom done at a cake store. We also had small bar foods, like nuts, chips and dip, and chex mix.
Adult Birthday Ideas : Dress Code and Party Time

We had our friends start to come over around 9 pm the day before his birthday. We told them to dress exotically (warning, if you want to avoid extreme things, specify on the dress code).

There was about 40 people there, all drinking, smoking and generally having fun. Before midnight, we all gathered in the main room, presented my buddy with the cake and sang him happy birthday.

We partied afterwards until about 3 A.M. Clean up was a pain, but honestly, it was worth it. Everyone had fun and it was a once in a lifetime deal. I'd definitely recommend it if you have the time and the materials. This party is suitable for those over 21.
