Since driving is such a big part of becoming 16, I rented out an entire go-kart track for my son's 16th birthday party. We decorated the party room at the track with road signs and other car-themed decorations.
Since many of the kids had not yet taken their permit test, we made the driving test booklet part of the fun! We turned it into a game. This is how we did it:
Pair off into teams...boys against the girls is always fun...if you have enough kids. The party go-ers don't necessarily have to be of driving age yet to enjoy this game.
It can be educational for everybody, including the adults. If they answer a question correctly, they can accumulate tokens...in the form of key chains, silly car air fresheners, dashboard bobble decorations and such. It keeps with the driving theme and makes them laugh.
If they answer a question incorrectly, they have to do something like try to drive around the go-kart track backwards or have the child who is turning 16 (the guest of honor) play a "cop" and they can have great fun writing out "tickets" to the "losers."
They could have to pay a small fine or lose some other kind of prize. Let your imagination go with this one and let the teens help with the ideas.
My son loved his party, and this one game was actually enough to keep them occupied (along with racing around the go-cart track of course).
We weren't able to get him a car for his 16th, but we did the second best thing with this go-cart party.
