50th Over The Hill Birthday Party Theme Idea

To put on a 50th Over the Hill birthday party, you have to make sure you do one thing... check that the guest of honor has a sense of humor! There are going to be lots of embarrassing moments with silly decorations, games and gag gifts that are very funny but they all play on the concept of a person getting old.

There's nothing worse than going to a ton of trouble putting together an Over the Hill party and then having your birthday friend get mad about it. So, think about how they react to things. Are they still pretending their 39 years old? Skip this theme and go for something more neutral!

50th Over the Hill Gag Gifts

Gag gifts for this type of a theme are a great idea. Think in terms of what people might need in their senior years and anything goes! Here's a quick list: Adult diapers, Fake false teeth, Wrinkle cream, Prune juice, Cover the gray hair dye.

Over the Hill Decorations

You can buy balloons that have printed on them the saying "over the hill". Accompany these with other items that are black like the table cloths, streamers, plates, cups, service ware.

Gold is often a good color mixture that can be matched with black. Other decorating ideas are tombstones, graveyards, hills and skeletons.

Silly 50th Over the Hill Games

You can have a lot of fun here if your guest of honor and guests are willing to have some fun! A game idea that we used at my 50th was popping balloons with walking canes. It's harder than it sounds! We also did a wheelchair race (my friend had one we could use).

Other games we played were a prune juice drinking contest, and a game where we had to put wrinkle cream on our team members face while they sang the clap on clap off song (It's an old tv infomercial).

We invited all of the guests to come dressed like an older person. It was funny how people interpreted this. Some came with their pants worn very high on their waist. Others wore suspenders and plaid pants.

There were a lot of mismatching pants and shirts, granny cardigans, and I'm certain more than one raided their mother's jewelry box for costume jewelry.

Over the Hill Roasts

Entertainment for a party like this isn't complete without an Over the Hill roast. The very best entertainment can come from the guests and be totally free.

Ask each guest to think about a funny situation or embarrassing moment that occurred in the life of the birthday celebrant. These should be sent to the party planner in advance so as to accommodate different ideas and plan for more surprises.

Then at a set time, have the birthday roasts begin! They're like toasts, only over the top silly and sometimes very revealing. Have fun! I did...
