50th Birthday Hawaiian Luau Style

I know it sounds typical being that I live in Hawaii, but if there's one thing about Hawaii and it's people, we can throw a awesome party. We just celebrated my Uncles 50th birthday with a huge Luau, and it was a hit.

A Luau really is a perfect way to celebrate your 50th birthday. Instead of a doom and gloom party like an Over the Hill theme, it's light-hearted and fun.

Hawaiian Luau Birthday Decorations

For the theme think flower lei's, hula dancing, native people, tropical food, blooming flowers of all colors,and by far the best thing of all, Aloha spirit surrounding you.

It's so easy to do, put up a tent to go the cheap and easy route, or rent a place that you have always enjoyed. Flowers are always in abundance. Check out your local florist to see if they have some tropical varieties. Also decorate with fern fronds or fake ferns if that's all you have available.

Arrangements of flower centerpieces are almost always so affordable, and more beautiful than most center pieces out there. Have poles wrapped in coconut leaves, to resemble palm trees. You can also decorate with plastic coconuts and tiki items. There are so many options available with the Hawaii luau birthday party theme!

Hawaiian Party Food

These are typical Hawaiian party foods: Poi, Rice, Raw fish, Raw crab, Squid luau, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, the list goes on and on, but those are the necessities.

A lot of the food is not something everyone likes, but some alternatives on the island's are Barbecue style. If you're going to invite kids make sure to have some "recognizable dishes" on hand like hamburgers and hot dogs.

Luau Birthday Party Entertainment

The next thing you really must have at your luau is entertainment. There are tons of local bands who will play for a price, and hula is a must have. Hula dancing makes a luau more fun!

If you don't live in Hawaii, consider reserving a Hula dancer, or have everyone practice the Hula dance. If you do live in Hawaii most times people know someone who dances. If you do, they will often dance to help a friend entertain a party. Most Halau's and dancers look for good exposure for their Halau's, and themselves.

Having a good host is also a good way to help with entertainment. It's common to have a host for a Luau. Everyone has at least one super funny outgoing friend. Enlist them! They will make a terrific host's for a luau. Someone with spunk, and some aloha spirit.
