You're coming up on that time of year again. That special day where everything is about you. Your family and friends gather together to celebrate. But this time is not so exciting for you. The big five-oh.
But not to worry. This calls for an even more spectacular celebration! One that encompasses the heart of your youth and adventure. Something that brings not only fun times and catching up with old friends, but that key level of nostalgia to make the night forever memorable.
Think back to your college days. When you felt invincible and partying was inevitable: The early 1980s. An '80s themed party can be easily accomplished with a few simple details.
First Think back to your favorite TV show of the early '80s, or even a popular movie. Take some ideas of costumes from those and make sure every guest knows it's a costumed event. Try to pull some old clothes from your closet to impress your guests. Bring back old hairstyles, make-up trends, even catch phrases.
Second Make your cake themed with some sort of memorabilia from the '80s. It could be a popular news story, a popular celebrity, TV show, your favorite musician from the time period, etc.
Third Use old board games or party games that were popular in the '80s. Many of today's games are convoluted with the special bells and whistles of our ADD youth. Take a look back on the good old days when games could be easily played without having to read 5 pages of confusing instructions.
Fourth You could try bringing back and old TV show you used to watch with friends such as older episodes of Saturday Night Live. You'll all remember the great jokes you used to laugh at.
Fifth Another thought is pulling out that old Atari game or Pong (Remember that?!?)to entertain your guests with some great '80s electronic fun.
Lastly, think of some great party favors that may have been popular such as the Rubix Cube. Everyone will realize what sorts of fun they're missing out on in this new day and age.
One last note: try to play lots of '80s music throughout the evening. Give everyone that memory of their wedding dances or the great party jams in college. Of course, you'll come up with the proper decorations to suit your home and the food choices, but with these great ideas, your Nostalgic 50th Birthday Party will be a huge success!
